The organizers of the Blue Jamboree ask that we all honor the memory of the nine people lost in the terrorist attack on the Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. As Pastor of the Church and a SC State Senator the Honorable Reverend Clementa Pinckney left a great legacy for South Carolina and all of America. We ask that you support the continuation of projects that he was passionate about by donating to Lowcountry Ministries - Reverend Pinckney Fund (an initiative of the Palmetto Project and the City of Charleston). You can donate by going to http://www.palmettoproject.org/
Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm gave a rousing speech at the Blue Jam 2014. We were very honored to have her address us and we especially loved her "Ode to South Carolina and Michigan."
You from the south, and us northern yanks, We seem as different as cornbread and franks. But upon closer look, for what it's worth, You might think we were separated at birth. Both states are adjacent to water; Granted, your weather's just a smidge hotter. Both are states with flora and fauna so fertile -- Who knew? Both state reptiles? The turtle! I'm not kidding, there's much more here Both state mammals? The white tailed deer! More than symbols that connect us, Our political landscape also intersects us. Unfortunately for you and me, Every major state office is now G-O-P. OK, there's one fluke, if you will: Lieutenant Governor John Yancy McGill. (Speaking of flukes, I'd like one question answered: Just how did the voters re-elect Mark Sanford?) For both states, no time to sit back and gloat, Let's roll up our sleeves and get out the vote! Your Dem candidates are on the right track: Sheheen, Sellers, Deerin, Bell, Miller, Tinkler -- will help take your state back! As for Hutto and Dickerson, you know what to do - G-O-T-V and keep the Senate blue! But 'round the bend, the Rs are already afraid -- I predict Dems hold the White House for another decade. You know why the Rs quake in their boots? 'Cuz y'all will be signing up lots of recruits! In 2016, ol' Jeb won't save the day. Too many Bushes, his mama did say. So the GOP's auditioning every conservative star - Looks like their fielding another full clown car. Rand Paul, Rick Perry, Donald Trump blowing his horn: Just put up your feet and break out the popcorn. We'll just let them steep in their party of tea: And we'll fight for the White House from Detroit to SC! Oh yes, we're amassing our Democratic artillery, Because you know that we'll be Ready for Hillary! For South Carolina and Michigan our candidate could be heaven sent, No finer words, it seems, than "Madame President."
